Some Scrappin'

I mentioned in my last post that I spent a good chunk of Sunday scrappin'. Well, it's true! I started these pages on Friday night, but got stalled by the creativity vampire. I resumed my scheming on Sunday and am fairly pleased with the final look of my pages.


These commemorate our trip to Ottawa last spring, when we attended the Syttende Mai (May 17th) festivities with my Mother-in-law and a bunch of Norwegian ex-pats. May 17th is when the Norwegians celebrate the signing of their constitution. Adina got to wear a traditional Norwegian costume, and she was pleased as punch.

The paper used is all Stampin' Up. The patterned bits are from the '08 Holiday mini. I used the wheel for scandinavian season to create the dark blue patterned paper. The solid papers are Night of Navy, Real Red, and Chocolate chip. The swirl was created with the 2x12" Big Shot die. The brads and buttons are SU, as is the ribbon. Everything else is from my stash o' embellishments.

Proud Mom

I've been back in the land of paper this week and I have to confess, it feels good. Of course, my laundry's not getting done, but who needs clean clothes when it's -19 out, right? Just go naked!

I spent a good chunk of my Sunday scrappin' and making Valentines for my kids. I got to thinking how expensive it is to buy character valentines, when I can just as easily have them make cards out of bits of unwanted paper in my crap craft room. This is a win-win-win proposition:
1) I get rid of unwanted paper from my hoard
2) I save precious pennies on commercial valentines
3) I get to spent a quality hour with each of my kids

This is my darling daughter, Adina, working on her valentines. I came up with the basic design (glitter heart on circle on scallop circle on card). She picked the colours. She has a bit of a weakness for pink.

Surprisingly, I was also able to rope my non-crafty son, Rowan, into making his Valentines as well. Here's Rowan hard at work.







And here's Rowan's finished card. I managed to pick up the "Hockey Lover" stamp in the cheapie bin at the M-store.

Soooo... I'm a little late.

The reason el Bloggo has been so quiet of late is because I haven't set foot near my craft room in a couple of months. It was completely overrun by Christmas, and there was barely any room to move, let alone craft and create. I had two choices: Make myself stressed out and insane trying to Martha my way through the holidays, or let a few less-important activities slide in favor of relaxing a bit and enjoying myself; the cards and the craft-room got put on hold.

Over the last couple of weekends I have been reclaiming my space and finally getting around to creating my Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Winter cards to send out to friends and family.

<- Here's what they have to look forward to. There's very little SU! on this card, but that's something else I decided not to stress myself out about. *grin*

The card base is SU! Whisper white 4.25x4.25". The blue mat and circle are cut out of SU! Ballet Blue and the circle was punched using the big SU! 1-3/4" circle punch. The snowflake is punched out of the blue circle using a Marth punch, and the opening is lined with silver foil paper on the back.

The textured white is some shimmery white cardstock I picked up a clearance sale at a local scrapbooking store. I ran it through my cuttlebug to create the dry-embossed texture. I then lightly rubbed the raised surfaces with my new Marth glue stamp pad. I'm of mixed opinions about the glue pad. One the one hand, I like the idea of being able to stamp in glue and use lots of glitter (glitter glitter glitter!). On the other hand, the pad itself seems to need re-inking (gluing) with every use, it's crazy sticky, and I don't know how well it cleans off of things like.. oh... stamps.

Where was I? Oh, yes. I rubbed the raised surfaces with my glue pad, and dunked the paper into my Dazz'Diamonds glitter. My craft room looks like tinkerbell went on a bender.

Slap it all together and Voila: A happy Winter card.
